This past Sunday was my mother-in-law’s birthday and we went to Jeff’s parent’s house for a picnic to celebrate. It was probably the last picnic of the season and the part of me that hates summer heat and humidity is glad about that, but the weather WAS really nice! Everyone who attended brought a dish or two and Jeff’s dad cooked hotdogs over an open wood fire….mmm mmm mmm!
Jeff’s mom and dad have a beautiful property with a small orchard and an ENORMOUS garden. I had fun wandering through the orchard snapping photos while Jeff and his dad and Cathy’s (my sister-in-law) dad, Sam, cooked the hotdogs. When the hotdogs were done, we dug into the food. We had a wide variety of dishes, but everything went well together and tasted wonderful.
As is always a smart idea right after eating – NOT – Jeff and I tried to entice our nephew, Ben, to come out and play wiffle ball with us. We took turns pitching to one another and batting. Finally, when our older nephew, Nate, came out to the field Ben mosied over and started to play. He really hit his stride when I (A GIRL) left the field!!!
We finished the picnic with cake and homemade nectarine ice cream – not that we need another morsel in our bellies! On the way home, I asked Jeff to make a U-turn so I could snap some photos and we decided to meander through the back roads to get home. It was a nice drive, allowing us time to talk in a way that we don’t do when we’re at home with distractions. All in all, it was a relaxing day and great way to celebrate Marlene’s birthday. I hope she had a good time! And I hope you enjoy some of my snapshots from the day!
