Easter Sunday

What a wonderful day!

It could have gone badly because I didn’t fall asleep until about 4:00 a.m. (first caffeine in a week after 5:00 pm – duh!) and I woke up late.  But it didn’t go badly at all.  Despite the cold, raining weather, it was just about as perfect a day as I could have!

There’s no better way to celebrate Easter than at Daybreak Church in Mechanicsburg with our church family.  It was so nice to see so many people under the big tent – people we don’t get to see every Sunday.  There’s something special about greeting one another on Easter – it’s just a little more magical somehow.  And I was thrilled to have our nieces and brother-in-law sitting next to us.  It’s been too long since they’ve joined us for church.  It filled my heart in a way that I cannot explain with words.

We watched several people get baptized – they shared their stories of life change via video, which is always uplifting and reaffirming.  We enjoyed some great worship music.  And we listened to Pastor Joel’s sermon about Dead-End Grace.  I was challenged to think about the dead-ends in my life right now!

After church, we made our way home in the rain.  When we arrived, we began working on our list – the list that would make Easter dinner (a non-traditional meal) possible by 2:00 p.m. Today’s list included:

  • Add panko and form chicken sliders
  • Form beef sliders
  • Macerate raspberries (for Torta al Vino Rosso)
  • Prep sweet potatoes
  • Prep broccoli
  • Clean floors
  • Soak chick peas (ceci)
  • Whip cream
  • Cut Easter bread
  • Put egg “place cards” on table
  • Fill water glasses
  • Fry chick peas
  • Cook hot dogs and sliders
  • Enjoy time with family

To refresh your memory, the menu included:

  • Fried Ceci Appetizer
  • Salad (turned out to be a Caesar Salad with a Twist)
  • Hot dogs
  • Beef Sliders
  • Spicy Orange Chicken Sliders
  • Assorted Cheeses and Other Yummy Burger & Dog Toppings
  • Sweet Potato Oven Fries
  • Roasted Broccoli
  • Easter Bread
  • Torta al Vino Rosso (Red Wine Chocolate Cake with Macerated Raspberries and Whipped Cream)
  • Malibu Italian Surfer Cocktails (these were INCREDIBLE – if memory serves, which it may not after a few of these cocktails, the drinks included a mix of coconut rum, amaretto, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice)

The plan went off without a hitch – Jeff and I were putting the finishing touches on everything just as the doorbell rang.  We ate too much, talked too much, and even laughed a lot (but not too much – I don’t think there’s such a thing as laughing too much)!!!  Then with some help I cleared the table and put the food away.  We formed teams and played Catch Phrase. Then the inevitable question came…..”when can we have cake?” So even though we were probably too full to even attempt eating dessert – we did!  Then we trickled into the living room to chill.  Too soon, Vanessa had to get on the road – she has to work tomorrow so she headed back to the Philly area.  After she left everyone else slowly followed suit.

Now Jeff and I are sitting contentedly in the living room.  Each of us staring at our technology of choice, listening to music and the dull hum of the dishwasher.  I am sooooo happy and so full – both my stomach and my heart!  I have so much to be grateful for (yes, I AM going to end a sentence – but not this post – with a preposition).

No, I won’t end the post with a preposition. The post I will end with John 3:16….“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
