A Bit About Me

My name is Janice Groff – my friends call me Jan and my family calls me Abby (that’s a story for another day).  I live in central Pennsylvania with my husband, Jeff, and our two golden retrievers, Macy and Kissy [May you rest in peace my sweet Kissy].

Although I am new to the world of blogging, I am no stranger to cooking, eating or entertaining.  In fact, I often wonder if the gift truly is passed down through the blood.  I come from a family of amazing Italian cooks and have loved to cook for as long as I can remember. For me cooking is an act of meditation rather than a chore!

Cooking for people who love to eat fuels my soul and one of my favorite things in this world is seeing my dining room table surrounded by friends and family laughing, eating and enjoying one another’s company in a way that our fast-paced, technology-driven world allows less and less frequently.

A great deal of the time, you will find me at The Kitchen Shoppe & Cooking School in Carlisle, PA.  I wear many different hats at The Kitchen Shoppe – my responsibilities include (in no particular order) prepping for classes, working retail, web & social media, and teaching classes.  I love the flexibility and the diversity of duties!

In addition to cooking, I also enjoy photography, writing, spending time with God, travelling with my husband (who is a great cook and an amazing amateur tour guide and planner), reading (both fiction and non-fiction), and kayaking.  After working for several years both in the private sector and in state government, I have been richly blessed – by both a loving God and a flexible husband – with the freedom to pursue my passion for cooking, eating and entertaining!

  3. You certainly do come from a great line of Italian cooks! How lucky you are to be pursuing your passion! Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us. One thing I love just as much as a table of good food surrounded by friends and family is someone who is genuinely passionate about what they do. Hope this leads to great things in your life!!
